Members of the Safer Communities Network team recently attended a Local Government Association hosted Forum for Tackling Anti-Asylum Activism.
There were some useful resources to share from the event, which were produced in partnership with Communities Inc and Refugee Roots.
A digital myth buster about asylum seekers and refugees highlights some common misconceptions and details the processes around seeking asylum in the UK. The topics addressed include the legal status of asylum seekers and refugees, housing, costs and the population percentage.
It reveals that more 110 million people worldwide are forcibly displaced, with 74% hosted by low-income countries and 69% only crossing one border into neighbouring countries. It also highlights that in the UK, as of March 2023, there were 7,290 unaccompanied children seeking asylum in England.
The digital myth buster can be downloaded here, and a print file can be downloaded here. These resources are only available in English.
