Inaugural Safer Communities Awards 2023

Inaugural Safer Communities Awards 2023

Across Wales Community Safety Partnerships and other partners are working individually and together so that everyone in Wales feels safe and free from the fear of exploitation, crime and disorder. This work is often carried out quietly and by a small number of people who have a passion for making a difference to individuals, families and communities.

The Safer Communities Awards are being held to recognise outstanding contributions to community safety in a multi-agency context. The afternoon event will be celebratory in spirit and recognise those who have had a real impact on people’s lives throughout the year.

As well as recognising individual’s efforts and collaborative projects and partnerships, this will also provide a spotlight for awardees, colleagues and wider community safety professionals that their hard work is valued and makes a real difference to individuals and communities across Wales.

Register to attend the Awards here.

The Award nomination process is now closed.

The nomination form includes the opportunity to describe why you think this person, project or partnership should receive an Award. It will help the panel if within the word limit you provide a bit on any impact on individuals or communities that has been made. There is a limit of 500 words for this part of the nomination form. Any additional words will not be taken into consideration.

Nominations are welcome from all parties and towards any individual, organisation or project working in Wales involved whether paid or unpaid (volunteer) from public, private or the third sector (charities, voluntary groups or community groups).

There are fourteen categories for awards, with category winners selected by an award panel in regard to the following topic areas.

  • Anti-Social Behaviour
  • Crime Prevention
  • Equalities, Inclusion and Cohesion
  • Modern Slavery and Exploitation
  • Offending and Justice
  • Public Safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Early Intervention
  • Serious Violence
  • Organised Crime
  • Terrorism and Extremism
  • Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence
  • Governance

Deadline for receipt of nominations:  18 October 2023

The panel is being chosen to avoid as many conflicts of interest as possible, whilst bringing those with specialist knowledge on community safety from government, public sector and the third sector.

The panel is made up of a representative from Welsh Government, Welsh Local Government Association, Policing in Wales and the Wales Safer Communities Network.

If there are any questions or clarifications required by the panel in order to make a fully informed decision, this will be communicated with the nominator, and if necessary the nominee, by the Wales Safer Communities Network team.

The panel will review the nominations and their decision will be final.

What: Inaugural Safer Communities Awards 2023

When: Thursday 30 November 2023, 14:00-17:00

Where: Village Hotel Swansea, SA1 8QY

How to book: Attendance is being managed through Eventbrite. Please register here to attend the event in person in Swansea.

The Awards will be hosted by a well known Welsh celebrity with links into community safety. Details will be announced soon.

These are the inaugural awards and we are therefore not intending for this to be a black tie event, but rather a smart-casual afternoon event. There will be tea, coffee and non-alcoholic drinks available throughout the event. No alcohol will be provided as part of the Awards event, however a licensed bar area is available at the hotel should guests wish to make use of this after the ceremony and at their own expense.

The agenda will be shared with all those booked to attend and added to this page once it has been finalised. Delivering safer communities involves a wide range of partners which we hope will be reflected in those involved in the event/ceremony already confirmed from Policing in Wales, Local Government, Fire and Rescue Service and Welsh Government.

Welsh language translation will be provided to allow all attendees to engage in the event in either Welsh or English.
