Safer Communities Awareness Week 2024 – Looking forward

Last week was Safer Communities Awareness Week 2024 and the Network was involved with a number of events and activities. You can read more about the Network’s activities here. Be sure to mark your diaries for Safer Communities Awareness Week 2025 which will take place 15 – 19 September.

 Safer Communities Training Package

The Network is working with Swansea University as part of an ongoing partnership to develop a Safer Communities training programme. We’d like to know what you think, so please complete our survey.

We are also conducting a Community Safety Training mapping exercise to ensure we are able to signpost, utilise and understand the gaps better. You can help us by sharing links to existing training or learning packages relevant to Community Safety, whether these are for internal or publicly available. Or share names and contact details of the relevant person in your organisation that we can have a chat with about training.  Get in touch with us if you can help.

So what’s next?

Community safety is constantly moving, so here’s a summary of some of the things coming up over the next few months.

October

  • 1st October – Single Unified Safeguarding Review (SUSR) guidance comes into effect.
  • Entries to the Safer Communities Awards close on Friday 11 October at 5pm. Make sure your nominations have been submitted by then. Visit our web page for more details.
  • Aberystwyth University are hosting this year’s Anti-Slavery Wales Conference in partnership with Welsh Government. There is also Anti-Slavery training being developed which we will share when it is launched.
  • The All-Wales Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Practitioners Network will be holding its annual conference in Llandrindod Wells on 23 October. If you’re interested in attending, please contact us.

November

  • Resolve’s ASB Awareness Week will be taking place 18-24 November with an overarching theme of #MakingCommunitiesSafer.
  • The Safer Communities Awards will be held on 28 November at Wrexham Football Club. We’re delighted to welcome TV presenter John-Paul Davies to host the awards this year.

As usual we’ll also be publishing our monthly Briff newsletter which contains community safety information from around Wales and the UK. If you’d like to be added to the mailing list or have content that you’d like us to include, please email us.

We’re always here to help make practitioners lives easier and we welcome feedback. Please tell us if there is something we could do that you would find us useful.
