Child National Referral Mechanism Pilot (Devolved Decision Making)

Local authorities in Wales with responsibility for children’s social care are invited to a virtual Awareness and Engagement Event to learn about the Child National Referral Mechanism (NRM) Pilot and how to get involved. This event is designed for local authorities not currently participating in the pilot programme and will be held on Thursday, 7 November 2024.

The Child NRM Pilot tests devolving the responsibility for making decisions about child victims of modern slavery away from the Home Office to local authorities. Through this programme, decisions are made by multi-agency panels that involve core safeguarding partners such as the police, health services, and local authorities. By engaging in this pilot, local authorities have the opportunity to contribute to more localised, informed, and collaborative decision-making processes for vulnerable children.

This event will provide an overview of how devolved decision-making operates within the pilot and give local authorities the chance to explore potential future participation. Prior to any final decisions being made about the future of devolved decision making this event is taking place to assess the current level of engagement. All local authorities are welcome to attend the event

To register your interest in attending the Awareness and Engagement event, please email childmspilots@homeoffice.gov.uk with your name, contact email address, job title/role, the local authority you are connected to and an alternative contact (in case of unexpected leave).
