Counter Terrorism Policing Cymru has announced that the National Referral Form (NRF) is being launched in Wales to streamline the process for reporting concerns related to radicalisation.
Key Features of the National Referral Form:
1. Enhanced information gathering: The new form encourages detailed submissions. Practitioners are urged to provide as much information as possible to allow specialist officers to effectively assess Prevent risks and improve data recording.
2. Updated terminology: To reflect the latest understanding of susceptibility to radicalisation, the form includes updated language and questions. These changes prompt referrers to consider a range of behaviours and circumstances when identifying concerns.
3. Improved accessibility: The form has been designed with greater readability and ease of use in mind, ensuring that all users can navigate it effectively.
4. Welsh language option: A Welsh language version of the form will be available via a simple “switch over” button, represented by the Welsh flag, ensuring inclusivity across the nation.
When and how to use the NRF
If there is a concern about potential radicalisation or a belief that someone may be vulnerable to radicalisation, specified authorities must use the NRF to make a referral to Counter-Terrorism Policing Wales. The NRF ensures a consistent approach to Prevent referrals across Wales, aligning with statutory Prevent duty guidance.
The transition to the NRF will occur seamlessly on Friday 25 October, using the existing link that has been in place for many years under the All Wales Partners Prevent Referral Form. No action is required from users, as the switch will happen automatically. For further details, please refer to the Prevent Duty Guidance for England and Wales.
