The overall responsibility of the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner is to maintain an effective and efficient police service and to play a leading role in crime reduction and community safety in the force area. To assist her in this, the Police and Crime Commissioner is seeking to this appointment based at South Wales Police Headquarters, Bridgend, following a recent retirement.
The Head of Assurance and Compliance will support the Police and Crime Commissioner in responding to correspondence, representations and complaints from the public. The role holder will manage the internal complaints, and the review processes created because of the Policing and Crime Act 2017, monitor how South Wales Police handles complaints and scrutinise the way in which complaints, vetting and internal misconduct matters are dealt with. They will also liaise with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) regarding serious matters and monitor how the force deals with such matters and organisational learning.
The role will also provide the Chief Executive and Commissioner with support in relation to the execution of statutory functions in respect of compliance with legislative requirements and holding the Chief Constable to account, to ensure an effective and efficient police service. The role holder will act as a Deputy Monitoring Officer.
The role holder will act as a Data Protection Officer for the Police and Crime Commissioner and have responsibility for signing off formal Freedom of Information request responses and Subject Access Requests and will monitor how the force responds to such requests. Working in collaboration with the team, they will conduct dip sampling exercises in respect of various areas of work undertaken by different departments within South Wales Police.
As a manager and team leader within the Police and Crime Commissioner’s team the role holder will be required to contribute to management and development of the wider team as well as representing senior managers at both internal and external meetings as required.
The ability to speak Welsh is an advantage but is not considered essential for this post.
