Research to Address Workplace Sexual Harassment among BAME Women in Wales

Researcher Dr. Sophia Kier-Byfield is seeking participants for a study exploring the experiences of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic women who have encountered or observed workplace sexual harassment in Wales within the last five years. This project, funded by the Welsh Government’s Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Blueprint, Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, and Race Disparity Evidence Unit, aims to deepen understanding of this issue.

Who can participate?

You are eligible to join if you:

  • Identify as a woman from a Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic background, including Mixed or Multiple Ethnic groups.
  • Experienced or witnessed workplace sexual harassment towards a Minority Ethnic woman in Wales, from any sector or employment type.
  • Had the experience within the past five years.
  • Reported the incident or not – formal or informal reporting is not required.
  • Are not involved in any ongoing legal proceedings related to the harassment.

Participants will be invited to join a focus group discussion on their experiences or observations. For those who reported their experiences, a one-hour, one-to-one follow-up interview will offer an opportunity to share more details on the reporting experience.

Anonymity and Support

All participation is confidential. Your responses will be anonymised, and you’ll have full control over what and how much you choose to share. With consent, your insights will help inform policies and practices designed to support individuals affected by harassment. A £20 voucher will be provided as a thank-you for your time.

Specialist support will be available through Bawso, a Welsh organisation dedicated to supporting ethnic minority women, during and after your involvement in the research. Additional resources will also be shared for ongoing support.

Practical Information

This study will take place online via Microsoft Teams. If internet access or the platform presents challenges, please reach out to discuss alternative arrangements.
