Road safety webinar: key developments

The Wales Safer Communities Network is hosting a webinar focused on the latest developments in road safety policy across Wales and the wider UK. The session will take place on Monday 23 February 2026, from 13:00 to 14:00, and is open to all practitioners with an interest in road safety in Wales.

Over recent months there has been significant activity in this policy area, including the publication of the UK Government Road Safety Strategy, multiple UK Government consultations and the forthcoming Welsh Government Road Safety Partnership Plan.

The webinar aims to provide attendees with a clear, up‑to‑date overview of what these changes mean for communities, practitioners, and partners.

We are delighted to welcome:

  • Kaarina Ruta, Senior Policy Officer for Transport at the WLGA
  • Ian Bradfield, Principal Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Digital Connectivity at the Welsh Government

Both speakers will share updates on legislative developments, emerging workstreams, and ongoing strategic activity relating to road safety.

Attendees will gain insight into:

  • Recent policy developments within Wales and the UK
  • The publication of the UK Government Road Safety Strategy
  • Several ongoing UK Government consultations
  • Progress towards the forthcoming Welsh Government Road Safety Partnership Plan
  • Key workstreams and legislative changes impacting communities across Wales

This webinar is designed to bring practitioners and stakeholders up to speed with the current road safety landscape, supporting informed decision‑making and collaborative working.

As part of the wider policy context, the Department for Transport currently has several open consultations related to road safety, all of which close on 31 March 2026:

This is an open session, and we welcome participation from anyone with an interest in road safety in Wales. The Wales Safer Communities Network is committed to supporting safe, resilient communities across Wales, and we look forward to welcoming you to this informative session.
