Last week was Safer Communities Awareness Week 2024 and the Network was involved with a number of events and activities.
We were delighted to attend the Master Diversity Conference at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Monday with our exhibition stand, engaging with attendees about community safety issues for all members of the community.
On Tuesday we hosted a Lunch and Learn showcasing the winners of the 2023 Safer Communities Awards – North Wales Police Central Area Priority Crime Team’s Operation Tylluan. This was a county lines operation which secured 10 convictions including 7 for human trafficking. DI Richard Sidney talked us through the operation and how the county line was dismantled and convictions secured.
We welcomed Ben Lloyd, Director at G4S Community of Wednesday to talk to us about the work they do with other agencies to ensure better outcomes for individuals in the justice and probation system. He touched on the importance of remembering that there are people at the centre of this work and agencies work for the good of communities.
You can watch both the event recordings here.
We hosted the first Wales Data Analysis Innovation and Improvement Network (WDAIIN) Hackathon on Thursday. This event looked at data collection and sharing relating to synthetic opioids and the impact on our communities. It was an energetic and enthusiastic event with follow-up actions for WDAIIN over the coming months.
To round off the week we launched our Facebook page. We know that some people are leaving X, formerly known as Twitter, due to its role in spreading misinformation. We still view X as a valuable platform for sharing our messaging, however, have set up a Facebook page for those who would like to follow the Network there.
Mark your diaries for Safer Communities Awareness Week 2025 which will take place 15 – 19 September.
