Public Health Wales is seeking participants for a series of focus groups as part of their ongoing Substance Use Health Needs Assessment. This initiative aims to gather valuable insights from stakeholders across Wales to inform strategies on prevention, early intervention, treatment, and harm reduction related to substance use and its wider impacts.
About the Focus Groups
In November, Public Health Wales hosted several workshops that generated significant interest, highlighting the need for broader engagement. To ensure more voices are heard, they are organizing an additional five focus groups in January 2024. These sessions will bring together a diverse mix of stakeholders, providing a platform for meaningful discussions about alcohol and substance use in Wales.
Focus Group Schedule
The focus groups will be held virtually on MS Teams on the following dates:
- Monday 8 January: 14:00 – 16:00
- Tuesday 9 January: 10:00 – 12:00
- Tuesday 9 January: 13:30 – 15:30
- Sunday 14 January: 10:00 – 12:00
- Monday 15 January: 13:30 – 15:30
Each session will be capped at a maximum of 10 participants to ensure productive discussions.
Who Should Attend?
Public Health Wales invites individuals in both strategic and operational roles across Wales to participate. Representation from various sectors and perspectives is vital to capturing the full scope of challenges and opportunities in addressing substance use.

If you are interested in joining a focus group, please email Jennifer Evans at jennifer.evans8@wales.nhs.uk. Include your preferred date and time in your response. Once your registration is confirmed, a Teams meeting invite will be sent to you.

- Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
- If you’re unable to attend after registering, kindly notify Public Health Wales as soon as possible so your spot can be offered to someone on the reserve list.
