Roger Thomas, Chief Fire Officer of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Network Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) has retired after being with the Service for 29 years. Roger was recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours earlier this year for his commitment to the force.
Commencing his Fire and Rescue Service career in 1996, Roger has spent his entire career at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, becoming its Chief Fire Officer in April 2022. He has enjoyed an incredibly varied career in the Fire and Rescue Service, having worked through the ranks from Firefighter to numerous supervisory and middle manager roles, including a secondment to the Welsh Government in 2007/8. He joined the Executive Leadership Team as Area Manager in 2014, followed by Brigade Manager roles from 2017.
Roger has acted as the Network’s SRO since June 2022 where he provided insight and guidance to help shape the programme of work and Network priorities. Roger has been instrumental in ensuring a partnership focus has been prominent on the agenda at all Safer Communities Board meetings, and at the last Board meeting, members paid tribute to Roger’s contribution and impact on community safety across Wales. An example of Roger’s commitment is shown through his support of the Wildfire Board and the progress made with the Wales Wildfire Charter.
Everyone at the Network thanks Roger for his contribution to Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Network and community safety and wish him a happy and fulfilled retirement.
