On Thursday 11 June Pat Davey, Contents and Materials Manager at SAFE, part of the Community Security Trust (CST), delivered a seminar exploring the purpose of Martyn’s Law and the recently published statutory guidance, which aims to strengthen preparedness for terrorist incidents. This includes the introduction of a “responsible person” and a tiered approach based on the size and nature of premises.
The seminar explored what Martyn’s Law is and why it is important for Community Safety practitioners. Attendees heard how most organisations, particularly those in the standard tier, will be expected to focus on proportionate measures such as evacuation, lockdown, and communication planning, alongside raising awareness among staff and volunteers.
The session also highlighted the importance of early preparation, collaboration with partners, and making use of existing guidance and training resources to support readiness ahead of implementation.
